PostPosted: Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:19 pm   Post subject: Sony Sues Microsoft

Well we knew this was coming. Sony sued Microsoft for making a better console than them! At first, I was routing for the PS3, and thought it was a big mistake for the XBox 360 to be released practically a half a year - a year before all the other consoles. But now that I seen the games, seen all the hype of the PS3, and sony let us down, so far. I was always a Playstation guy, but now I'm going for the 360.

It was a good thing they changed the PS3 controller from the boomerang prototype, which I'm sure they were going to do anyways. It does seem nice with the wireless and motion sensor, but of course, the pricepoint. I'm not sure how many of you people buy the core systems, but they are practically whole different machines. Of course, you will be able to upgrade (for the company a profit), but I'd say always go for the full systems.

But I do say, if you have a PS3 versus a 360 and are an online gamer, I heard that the PS3 online will be free like the PS2. Therefore, after a year, the PS3 would probably be more of a bargain. But who could really say which console will win of the PS3 and XBox 360. Maybe there will be that one PS3 game that any gamer needs, but so far the game demos I've seen ldon't look that fun. And of course for the 360, Gears of War looks sweet. And who cannot forget GTA 4 (I thought Vice City and San Andreas were 4+5).

I think Square is also iffy on the PS3, because they have been releasing FF games on the 360. (BTW I'm only comparing these two because they are in war. The Wii is in a different category of it's own.)

Now that the 360 is out, by the time the PS3 is out, the programmers will overcome many of their obsticles, and graphic designers will learn more of the full potential of the 360. So what I'm trying to say is by the time Sony's PS3 is out, Microsoft will have sold many many XBox 360s and Games, and several XBox Live accounts, that Sony will have to have a miracle in order to catch up if they wish to win this console war.

Well, for this to happen, microsoft would have had to have made a better system than sony, but thus far, the PS3 hasn't been released, so your statement can't be true when one of the things you are comparing doesn't exist...

The main problem I see with the 360 is that every game that comes out for it will also come out for either

The other consols, or

The PC
So really, theres no point in having it...

Well, obviously microsoft will have sold many XBox 360s, it will have been out for a year allready. However, if you take into consideration the fact that PS2 released at least a game a day, and PS3 will probably do the same thing, there will be many games out for the PS3 pretty quickly. Also, the PS3 will come out as more expensive than XBox 360 did when it first came out. I don't care how many people complain about the price, the PS3 is going to sell out within the first few days anyways. Sold out = $ = winning the "console war". Though really, the only way to lose this war is if one of the companies went bankrupt... Theres a VERY small chance of that happening for any of them...

What will probably wind up happening is all 3 companies will quasi merge together, in that all games possible will be ported to all other systems, causing no need to get more than one. (Unless you really love playing mario for the 18 billionth time, or Halo for the 15 billionth time...)

Also, please provide a link for this apparant "suage". (I love that play on words. Its so much fun Razz)

The boomerang was the best part of the PS3.

"Fighting your way through hordes of ninjas in the latest next-gen video game? What if a ninja breaks into your house in real life, then what? 'Well,' you say, 'I'd just pwn him with my wireless controller!' Ah, but Johnny... what if there are two ninjas? Did you think of that? If only you had mortgaged a Playstation 3."

My only beef with playstation 3, is that... in favor of a motion sensor theyre taking away rumble?!! WHAAAA?

Anyways this is why PS3 > 360
FFXIII (all 3 are PS3 exclusive, i dont know what your talking about when you say square is iffy and is making stuff for the 360.)
MGS4 (exclusive? not sure)
Assassins Creed (*drool*)
GTA 4 is on both (I think Gears of War might be too, but dont quote me)

Also, better hardware, from what theyre claiming, and good hardware is nice to have. Frankly, I can only see getting the 360 for the Halo series. Otherwise PS3 and the Wii are the winners in my book. They have the best games, PS3 good hardware, Wii, innovative (although looking slightly novelty, can anyone imagine sitting with a Wii controller? Id have to stand).

and if you think games on the PS3 dont look much fun, check the trailers, FFXIII even has some battle gameplay in the trailer, and it looks orgasmic.

Yeah I'd go for Sony and their Final Fantasy. I thought FF11 was coming out for the 360? And what happened with FF12? All I remember was seeing a princess and some dude in the trailer. Did they just drop that game and continue with 13? Gears of War I'm guessing will be 360 only, and of course GTA will come to the PS3, after its been out awhile on the 360, kinda like PS2 had GTA games before the XBox.

Still, Sony comes out at 649 CA (who wants the core), and XBox 360 will be like 299 for premium. And you gotta think, its good they drop rumble for motion sensor, makes PS3 more innitiave(or whatever that word i was trying to spell is), and probably longer battery life.

anyone who thinks ps3 has better hardware should read http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32171.

and dont count on all the game companies staying loyal to sony forever. developing on the PS3 is a pain

Well... the 360 has sold about 3.5 million units. The PS2 sold that number in its first week of sales in the Japanese market alone. So this "miracle of catching up" relies only on the fact that Japan will still exist when the PS3 comes out.

The same thing was said about the PS2 and PS1, although what many articles omitted was that developers generally thought that developing for the XBOX was an even bigger pain - due to MS not being very forthcoming with some of the hardware workings, etc.

I think the word you're searching for is "innovative", although it definitely isn't the word I would've used. I'll agree on the battery life thing, I guess, but every time someone mentions buying a PlayStation console because of the Final Fantasy series I kill a kitten.

The motion sensor was a crass attempt to steal some of Nintendo's thunder. In a traditional two-handed controller format, the motion sensor makes little sense. Overall movement is limited by the fact that both of one's arms would have to move together.

final fantasy 12 is out in japan right now, and will be in the amerias soon. Its in my play magazine, got a 10 outta 10. Said to be far different from all the others. Has a gambit system that allows you to program your battles before hand, (e.i. when hp <= 60% then 'cast' 'curaga')
its for the ps2 of course. I'd hate to see them waiting for the ps3 with it. The games supposed to be about 250 hours of gameplay including all of the side quests(100 or 150 for core game i think), since they had to wait a while before sending it out they had ample time to add stuff in like guild wars and many secret dungeons.
Damnit, i cant wait!

@Mazer, kill another kitten, although I am also getting it for the many times mentioned MGS4 and Assassins Creed.

@wtd
Re- Stealing thunder, Agreed.
Re- Unwieldy, partially agreed. I agree the motion sensor will be strange, but it will work for flying games though. I saw a demo and it looks pretty sound. Although I cant imagine using a dual shock as a sword, thats ridiculous. Final verdict though, is that rumble > motion sensor on a dual shock. Rumble is so important, and the motion sensor is really limited to flying games, which i wont play so much.

@Andy, nonsense. even if its true, which I hope it isnt, it must and will be rectified. Have faith.

They only slaped the motion sensor on the PS3 controller to steal some of nintendo's profits. Anyone who saw the PS3 presentation at e3 knows the PS3 has a half assed motion sensor.

Good point. But form what i've looked up, it's not all free.

You can get free acess for all games but if you pay, you can get a "members" and able to gain acess to a bunch of other things. If youre just casualy playing online then yes, it would be a bargain, but if youre all into it, for the clans, friends list, exe, then the 360 might be the way to go.
