Necessity is the mother of invention. If you have a website that actually needs to exist, I'm sure you'll be more motivated to work on it than things like "my geocities homepage with ugly tiled background and shoutbox for my friends!" or "Internet game website #5802714". No offence meant, I've never seen your websites and I have no way of knowing that you are anything like that, I just picked some really extreme examples to illustrate my initial point.

Erm... why would you bump a topic... especially one that isn't even old? If people find it relavent/interesting they'll post.

The first website you posted is horrible. The second is blank. I'd say you should look into accessible design, and perhaps jsut design in general... you'd be much better off if you do create another website.

I'm assuming the first site uses PHPNuke? If so, well... I'll leave it up to you to switch to something more secure.

Like cornflake said, the second one doesn't show up.

As for advice, you need to find a niche of sorts and create a site for it. Please use some creativity in this one, not creating another knockoff site.

I don't think it was meant as a flame. Among other things, the black and yellow striped background on the navigation bar makes it really unpleasant to use. Similar with the nuclear symbol and the red "News" text.

No, it wasn't meant to be a flame; though I can see how it could be read that way.

What I meant was that learning how different colors go together, and what layouts are easiest to follow means that your websites are easier to use. The point of a website is to get information across quickly and easily. That means not distracting the visitor away from text with yellow and black stripes all over the place Wink

Sites should also try and make your site acessible. There are people who use text browsers, or blind people who use screen readers. Those people might need to get information from your site too; so you need to use standards that allow them to get at your content. Likewise some people might want to print your page. Printing a page is much different then looking at it on a screen, so you should use a different style-sheet for that.

Remember: standards and acessability go hand in hand. If you do things right then everyone can see your site and not try and rip out their eyes Wink

the secdon site is black becasue i had to shut it down sort of

http://vicodinandme.com/index.html2 <=== try that one

and i know bad color scheme. i had a way better site up before. but the domain expired. so im left with these. and this topic is not for criticizing my website ro flaming me about them. im trying to think of a site that i might enjoy working on and that will also get sufficient traffic. but i know i know. it takes time to get traffic.

also with atomicindustries.net. i used Dragonfly CMS. its a newer version of CPG Nuke im pretty sure. none the less it it the most secure CMS and it has many good features. many of which i dont use because i dont have an active site that uses cpg nuke

yea yea bad spelling

Ewww! Splash pages and the internet do not go together. Ever.

While you might not have wanted us to critique your work, you psoted it and now I (at least) am going to critique it so that when you do build another site it's done right.

Tables... tables should only be used for tabular data. For layout you should use positioned divs (or non-positioned divs). There is definitely never a need to have nested tables.

Since you specified xhtml 1.0 as yoru doc-type, you hsould actually use it. Height, width, background and border are not valid attributes in xhtml. To control those things you need to use CSS. Likewise alt is a required attribute for all images. Additionally the correct image tag is <img src="blah" alt="blat." style="width: 10px; height: 10px;" class="Image" /> where the style and class attributes are not required.

<b>,<i>, and other formatting tags are all gone. To format your text use <span></span> and CSS.

Also since this is a compsci site I really think I should point out that you can write your own php (or ruby, or C++, or Pascal, etc.) backend and then you won't be limited by bug and security filled things like PHP nuke, or phpbb.

I'm going to second everything Cornflake said.

And once again mention that reading small grey on grey text is not fun, especially with bright yellow lines constantly pulling the attention away.

We can critisize you independent of age. Just because you claim to be 15 doesn't mean you should do thigns right Wink

I don't have any ideas for websites; the only one I ever work on is my own... and that's a slow project if ever there was one.

age doesnt matter, amailer is probably still 14 and he's done some cool stuff with websites. catalyst was designing 3d applications in turing when he was 16 and doing some other insane stuff. everyone here who knows these guys can tell you that.
