|
|
Wow... when I log into windows, i start getting bombarded with pop-ups. I'm talking like 2 per second. After approx. 30sec, my comp freezes. This is not just when I go to Internet Explorer. I have yahoo + google pop-up blockers. I ran 3 version of anti-spy to remove spyware/adware. I ran norton antivirus.... Outta ideas. Any suggestions? (besides reinstalling windows). When I need to go on the internet/do other work, I end task 'explorer.exe' and run everything manually from the task manager. This is becoming a pain in the ass cuz no one else in my family know's how to work it. Also, i went to msconfig and unchecked everything from start-up. But when i restart, there is a file called iexplore.exe (yes, like the internet explorer one), that keeps rechecking itself. So, msconfig probably won't work either. |

Yeah adware and spyware is becoming worse these days. Really, unless you can figure out the cause of the problem (the file/name of the adware/spyware) I'd just format. You can probably back up things like text files, videos and images safely, but I wouldn't risk it with executables. |

I once had a spyware where the only way I could remove it was by actually locating it and deleting the file, even though I ran spybot it didn't seem to delete it. I found the file in a folder in my account folder (it was hidden by default that folder) and the file had no icon o.O
I dled a new 'task manager' with more advance features to find out the file path. |

careful with that i lost all my files with that!!!
anyways i believe i had the exact same problem with my old computer. i don't really remember how i fixed it. wat kind of spyware/adware r u using, because some of the spyware/adware only cause more spyware! yes its a proven fact. there was research done on a brand new computer how it only got more spyware/adware from the scans. spybot is pretty good! also u may want to call your internet provider. |

Well, I ran anti-spy from the yahoo toolbar. And I also used Lavasofts Adaware. In the msconfig setup for the startup, there's that program called iexplore.exe that keeps rechecking itself even when I click DO NOT EXECUTE ON START-UP. I'm guessing that's the problem, kind of hard to locate the filepath though bcuz i can't exactly delete internet explorer =/. I don't wana reformat/reinstall until it's absolutely a last resort. I have to make a backup of all the files, and with all these popups goin beserk, i can't really do much in 'explorer' |

Linux
In all likelyhood you'll need to delete the actual app. The only way to do that is to stop it from running... so basically you'll need a livecd of some kind. I'd offer more help... but I'm smart enough not to install any ad-ware on my computers ![Razz Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

Run your computer in safe mode.
Then use the anti-sw programs.
If you aren't in safe mode, you won't be able to delete some of the nastier spyware proggies.
Go to the RUN line and run msconfig.
Check that there aren't any programs starting up with Windows that you don't want. |

LA LA LA LA LA CD-KEY LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU.
Piracy isn't condoned on the board. I'm not judging you or your right to do with your own systems and software as you please - but this isn't the place for it.
At least pretend, for the sake of board atmosphere.
Repeat after me: "the demo was useless, so I *cough* bought the full version. It works great!" |

I never have problems with any of that. I think I might have had a virus ONCE. I removed it in under ten minutes. Lol. |
