The red shield with the X is showing up in my taskbar saying I have no antivirus software when clearly I do. Im using Symantec witht the latest definitions. I heard about a virus on the news about a week ago that disables antivirus software and think this might be the problem. I ran a scan and symantec didnt pick anything up. Anybody have any idea or know the name of this virus so I can download a removal tool?
Oh yea, the other computers on my network cant access the internet through this computer for some reason. The problem seems related.
I cant post anymore specific information because there are none. Things just seem to stop working... |

If you actually *paid* for your antivirus try re-installing it. And updating it.
If you "borrowed it" I Recommend AVG Free Antivirus.
Legitemitly free and so far I haven't had any infections. Ever. |

I also use the symantec from UW. Just uninstalled symantec and replaced with Avast, but that didnt fix anything. The thing is I have 3 comps using symantec and only this one has problems... |

u might have accidently disabled it at startup and thats why theres an x through it. just open it up go to options and enable it at startup. also it could be a problem with your firewall try lowering the setting or setting it to allows your anti-virus. did u install any new software lately? when did it stop working? if u have the trial version that comes on new computers usually the trial might have expired. |

Well the only thing I installed yesterday was Netbeans and JDK . The problem showed up in the morning after I booted up the computer. Anyways, I just did a system restore to 2 days earlier and things seem fine now. |
