I thought that i whould test out some new software that our host is providing throw there instation system. Baiclky the idea is a system that is total control by the users. It is up to the users to add content, update content or add/edit anything they whont. There is alot of poteantal for abouse in such a system but i thought i might as well give it a chance and see what the users of this could do.

The wiki is at:

www.compsci.ca/wiki

or

wiki.compsci.ca

You do not need an acount to edit or add anything so feal free to give it a try.

Clicking "random page" only takes you to the main page. Is there something that needs to be done by people writing articles?

This is excellent! Kudos to Dan! Now we have something nice and concrete to point beginners to when they ask the same question for the fiftieth time. Smile

Did you also outfit it with LaTeX? WikiMedia wiki's have LaTeX support built in, of course, but the software needs to be installed on the server as well. It would be really useful Smile

Good job, Dan! *THREE CHEERS*

Oh, this is turning out much funner than I originally thought. We might need to hack up our bbtags to link to wiki articles Laughing

It seems the "wanted pages" link only shows a few of the pages that have yet to be created... Other then that it's quite cool... now to start adding to it... perhaps I'll move some of the tutorials over...

Great idea! But can't people delete other peoples work?
Anyhow, is there a way to tell who wrote what?

Technically yes, but Wiki's keep track of page history, so restoring the previous version would only be a mouse click away. And of course, the offender would be banned.

Yes. The page history Smile (And "Recent Changes" page).

Lots of new stuff added today... I'd encourage everyone to give it a look and if they are willing to get a little messy add something new; the IRC channel is a great palce to get help if you don't know what you are doing Razz

I think the Compsci logo on the top-left side of the wiki page(s) needs to be shrunk a bit

An excellent idea, but there are some issues. Should tutorials be maintained on both the forum and the wiki, or the wiki exclusively? How would the formatting work? Would we have to manually edit the text to fit the format style of wikipedia? Probably, since there are a lot of differences. This means that this will probably be a big project, and that we should focus first on transposing the main tutorials.

Also, a naming scheme needs to be planned. I suppose <Language>_<Title> would work. ex. Turing_Arrays or Ruby_Inject.

We should also probably link back to the forums for tutorial discussion. Asking about any omitted details and such. Hmm... this is getting to be complicated.

Dan has been mentioning some entirely separate system for holding tutorials and articles in V3, so we better wait for him to let us know what's happening.
