Raknarg: Good point. I have no idea where to start though. Anyone have advice for a first year carleton student?

Tony: It's rarely "too late". Some of my earlier summer internships were not lined up until mid May. There will obviously be less choices, but it's a bad strategy to not try.

Raknarg: Fair enough. I was thinking of trying to get an internship at a software company or any one relevant to my field, it would be a better advancement than working at A&W for a summer. I guess it's way too late though

Dreadnought: I'm not sure how the tax credits work, but it its possible that companies get more tax credits from co-op students than from regular interns (hence favouring them). However from what I've heard, if you're trying to work at some big place like Google, Facebook, etc. you're treated in approximately the same way (note that those companies are not Canadian).

Raknarg: Would those same people look at you the same as a student in coop?

Dreadnought: They have a system where employers put up job postings to which students can apply. If you are having trouble finding a job through that system they might suggest some job postings but its still up to you to convince employers you're worth hiring. In my opinion, the system doesn't get you a job but it does make it easier to find job postings. You can get probably get the same kind of job offers on your own, but it will take more work.

Nathan4102: Update: Another spam post that the kitchen filter would have stopped :P

Nathan4102: And quick question, for compsci co-op in UW, do you get any assistance in finding a placement from the school? I've heard they just give you suggestions on where to go, and I've heard they atcually help you get a placement so I'm not sure anymore

Nathan4102: There ya go, and UW is in kitchener-waterloo, berlin-waterloo doesn't sound as good :P

Nathan4102: Shout has been censored

evildaddy911: or you could just have it replace punctuation with a space, then filter "kitchen " and kitchens ", with a space after so that we can talk about kitchener

rdrake: Just call it by its real name: Berlin
