University of Waterloo’s iconic Computer Science sculpture has gone missing, from in front of the Mathematics & Computer building. The metallic blue “abstract art” sculpture that spelled out “CS”, supposedly from a variety of angles, has not been found to greet the Math students, on their way to class this morning. It feels like a small part of me has died today.
It looks like the sculpture has been stripped from the base, and the concrete base itself has been slightly moved as well. There’s a lot of construction going on throughout the campus, and it’s likely that the “CS” has been moved to be preserved while the service tunnels to the Nanotech building site are put into place. Though for now, the whereabouts of the Waterloo’s Computer Science symbol is unknown.
I’ll bet money its those pesky engineering students. They’re always stealing stuff / moving stuff at Guelph.
Its time for the Comp Sci students to strike back!
Ok, I had to get that off my chest. That sucks, it looks like a nice sculpture.

@Adam: I’ve got a great prank you could pull on us (engineers). You could steal all our nice iMacs and replace them with shitty windows compu……oh wait….nevermind…..

@Adam — you are right, CSers are taking a lot of abuse. Each year, during the frosh week, the Math faculty puts together a 24/7 guard post (I am not making this up), to protect the giant pink tie (faculty symbol) from various attacks. The other symbol — a “natural log” has been stolen a while ago. And now this…
@James — heh, I see what you’ve done there. Though Engineers get a few shiny iMacs as well. They are located in the Environmental building though

Folks, this reminds me of my days as an Electrical Engineering undergraduate student in the University of Malawi. Some crazy students uprooted a public phone booth and took it away. I am shocked to learn that such habits are also practiced in the Western world.

At least we still have that giant pink tie, right?

Yes, but as I’ve said — that’s because we have a guard post set up whenever the giant pink tie is in the public. I think it was destroyed (possibly multiple times) in the past.

I found the sculpture quite cool, un-traditional, and really cute. I am wondering why someone would remove such a abstract creation! It doesn’t spoil anyone’s emotions / religious beliefs and it looks different from the crowd too. If given a chance, I would reinstall this sculpture.

Do another sculpture. Look who remove it and paint him blue.

Ha ha Jimy, this would really be funny. I would love to see how that person will be painted blue!

Confirmed that it’s in storage:

Makes sense, since that area is now fenced in for the QNC construction
