I think it is essential to really research the University, and visit its campus, before committing to 4 or 5 years of study. Twice so, if the University of interest is in a new city. So I am organizing my second annual unofficial University of Waterloo campus tour and wings.
The event is open to all forum members, blog subscribers, and pretty much anyone else who contacts me with interest. The latter you have to do anyways, to find the group. So if you are still deciding on choosing a University, want to get a head start with campus orientation, or are simply looking to meet and hang out with fellow community members – you are invited.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 11th, 2007 – it’s March break (I think), it’s on a weekend, it’s got to be a free time to come out to Waterloo. It will be fun, I promise! After the campus tour we’ll meet up at Molly Bloom’s, the Irish Pub, for some chicken wings and chat.
Coming out (besides myself) are:
Small group, but it went quite well last year. Let me know if you are interested, or just leave a comment with any general questions.
Hey, why don’t I get a nickname? It’s clearly “Asok.”

Because you so clearly do not deserve a nickname

Well Martin’s forum alias is “Martin”, similar to how mine is “Tony”. I could always just make something up though…

Yeah, you could just give him his IRC name… go mdkess!

I wish I could go, but it doesn’t look like I will be able to. I will probably end up going some time before the summer, so I will let you know.

So, where *exactly* are we meeting? The SLC is a pretty big place. Also, what’s the exact time?
Or maybe you left these things out of the blog post for a purpose.

Mostly because I haven’t decided on the exact time yet. Clayton is the only one not on campus, so I suppose he should let us know what time he’ll get to Waterloo.
I’m thinking that Timmy’s is the best place to meet (it’s open on Sundays, right?). We could just grab a couple of couches there and sit around indefinitely.

Great, now it all rests on me. If it works, I could be there by roughly 12am, if that suits you
Seriously though, I can show up at 12 pm, and Timmy’s sounds good because I’m sure _everyone_ on campus knows where that is should I get lost. And I hope those are comfortable couches.

I might be going if I can find a way from Toronto to Waterloo cheaply and quickly… lol

Greyhound will take you from Toronto to Waterloo’s campus (that’s right, Greyhound makes stops inside the University) and back for $27 (with student ID). It looks like this plan would require the return trip to be from Kitchener (nearly hourly service), but getting there is pretty straight forward. Let me know.

I think timmytheturtle was trying to get down to Waterloo as well.

The thing with greyhound is that you get there and then have to leave an hour later…

Better than nothing though isn’t it? Although that still sucks large.

Well as I’ve mentioned above, there’s a nearly hourly greyhound service from Kitchener to Toronto (and Waterloo/Kitchener tickets are interchangeable). The local bus will take you straight from the University to Kitchener’s bus terminal (about 20 minute ride), there’s no way you can miss it.

Care to give more details… lol

You take a Grand River Transit #7 from University of Waterloo campus to the bus terminal (it’s this big station in the middle of Kitchener). [I know Kitchener sounds like a different city, but it’s actually a walk distance away from where I live in Waterloo, and the bus ride from the University is no more than 20 minutes). Grey Hound happens to share the very same station.
The details of the schedule you could confirm yourself, but for Sunday March 11th, it looks like there are 11 buses from Kitchener to Toronto, with the last one leaving at 10:00 pm.
As I’ve said before, the tickets are interchangeable (and are the same price). You buy a return trip Toronto-Waterloo-Toronto, and board back from Kitchener. There are no questions asked (I do this all the time).
