Strings and Length

Ok...I am in ICS3M, and we are learning Java...but I am very sick and therefore is very behind in class...so i can't get lessons from the teacher..
I know what they are learning because the teacher puts on a web page what they have discussed in class, but no lessons

So i need to kno how to read strings

and how to get the length of the strings.

Java help is not like Turing.
