If you look the 2gb also has a faster FSB for the cpu. So persoanly i whould go with that one but if u are going to be using it for gaming mostly i whould consider the other one as well.

You're going to hate the screen on those. That resolution is rediculous.

The only three companies to buy laptops from are Apple, IBM, and Toshiba, in that order. Everything else is notably worse in terms of build quality, reliability and customer service.

For the cost-conscious, Toshiba is probably the best bet of the three, but Apple and IBM have better (though not by too much) quality.

why is the resolution ridiculous

Everything is going to be tiny, and scaling to different resolutions on an LCD is not terribly reliable. Your eyes are valuable, young programmer. Cherish them.

I'd go for the first option. There's no real performance difference between 128 and 256 video cards, and 2GBs of RAM doesn't hurt.
Update: Might I add that nVidia cards have better support accross a wider range of Operating Systems aswell. Wink

I have the 6600GT, and it's really good performance wise. Not much too say, look at the benchmarks - its quite up there, especially compared to the ATI cards. It's also good for overclocking if you're into that...

I chose the first since the difference between 128 and 256mb on video cards isn't that much, and it doesn't come into play that often. It's easily worth the trade for a better 6600, as opposed to the 9700 pro. That, added on to the 2gb RAM, made my decision.

Asus makes decent laptops. They're one of the companies that produces laptops for Apple, for instance, and Apple has the highest rankings for laptops. However, that doesn't mean they can't make bad laptops. Quality control time is really important, and cheap generic branded laptops aren't going to be screened as thoroughly.

That and generic brands won't provide the same level of customer service.
