it's been working fine... all of a sudden when i'm using it as I normally do the burn time spikes up to about 80mins and stays there. usually it takes about 8 minutes or so. I tried again, same result. The drive reads fine also.

the software I am using to burn is sonic Recordnow deluxe. I checked the settings, and they were fine. I even lowered the write speed to 8x(the software tells me they are 16x but the discs say 8x on them)
But I don't think the write speed is the problem because it worked fine before on the MAX setting.

Any ideas?

I have yet to try writing to a DVD on my new burner yet, so I don't know of anything that could cause problems like this.

My only guess would be the media. Are you burning to the same kind of DVDs as you were previously when you didn't have a problem?

I'd check the media on another drive, I'd try different DVD burning software such as Nero, a trial is available on their page. As a last resort check to see if there have been any firmware updates to your drive and see what issues they fix. Perhaps your drive has a problem with certain kinds of media.

i doubt it's the media because i've been using discs from the same pack, and they worked fine everytime before this.

EDIT: seems to be working after a reinstallation of the burning software.
