Hey,
Well... I downloaded TuneUp Utilities 2004 and started using it about 4-6 days ago. It has an 'optimize' option where it automatically optimizes different settings of your computer for doing whatever work.
It has a system optimize settings, I decided to try it out. For the Use of computer I first tried Web server or database server... but that resulted in my internet connection to disconnect randomly, so I tried to change it back by changing it to Computer with Network or Internet connection, that solved the problem of the internet getting disconnected but it brought up a new problem....
When I use any web browser on my computer (WinXP Pro SP2) most of the web pages load fine everything seems alright-- but sometimes some websites suddenly don't load :S It says 'page not found' or 'cannot connect to bla bla bla' as if the site is down- but after waiting for... 4-6 minutes (I think) the site loads up perfectly as if nothing is wrong... I asked my friends if the site loads for them when it is down for me and they say yes... This even happens to sites that I visit frequently (Also for compsci.ca) and I have no idea how to stop it...
Anyone know how I can stop this? Is there some setting that has a limit to the number of connections or something (to my router? iunno not sure).
The TuneUp System Optimize has these options for the Use of computer:
- Computer without network or internet connection
- Computer with network or internet connection
- File server or printer server
- Web server or Database server.
for the Internet optimize settings -> connections it has these options:
- Modem (56k or less)
- ISDN
- ISDN..
etc all sorts of internet connections.. Mine is aDSL
- Fixed connections (10 Mbit or higher)
- Local network (10 Mbit or higher)
- Wireless network (10 Mbit or higher)
Err for those, I tried first aDSL (which is my internet connection) but that didn't work... So I tried Fixed connection and that didn't work ( I do have a network by the way..)
Any ideas??
Thanks. |

shadow master, please dont post if you dont have any idea what you're talkin about. all tune up utilities does is change your connection settings and some registry stuff so you can access the internet more freely, amailer, i think you're missing some files, thats y its not working.. try to reinstall the modem/ur isp account |

Well actually...
I tried the 'Local Connection' setting now... just to test everything out- and it seems to be working perfectly
Comp has been up for 1 day now and it seems to be working fine... atleast I hope- if it sitll continues I guess i'll have to reinstall the modem and etc. |

i actually had a few of those problems before, but i don't have it now. this worked for me but i don't know if it would work for u. try deleting the cookies and enabling some stuff on the security. then go delete the temporary internet files by going to my computer then c drive then windows then click on temp folder, then go to edit select all and delete. another problem u might have is spyware and adaware on your computer. if u don't have already a blocker for those u could easily download it of the internet and do a scan. i'm not telling u this will solve the problem but its worth a try! |

It seems fixed (I hope -.-)
And the problem wasn't only with IE, it was with every browser... + i never use IE XD
I did a spyware scan, did find spyware but that hadn't solved the problem.. seem the local connection setting for the optimize has fixed it at last!
There is no secruity risk in using that optimize setting right....? |

about the popup ads either install the google toolbar or it's a possibility that your home page has been hijacked that actually happened to me + u have spyware for sure. |

there is a really good spyware removal program that u can download at webroot.com and then go to donloads and then go to try this box and dowload the spysweeper. unfortunately it is a 30 day trial but it will remove all your spyware and will prevent any spyware entering your computer for 30 days. try this! |
