yesterday i remembered an old game i used to play on my gamegear. when i couldn't find it i decided to program it... it turned out pretty nice but i've yet to add options such as different game modes and sound. i've worked out most of the bugs sometimes weird things happen.
controls:
LEFT/RIGHT for movement
UP cycle colours
DOWN drop fast (not cant move block after this point)
CONTROL and SHIFT rotate counterclockwise and clockwise respectively

oooooo.... aaaaah.. Very nicely done, Zylum.
I played for about 5 mins, but had to stop because of all the MSN conversations A pause feature would be nice.
Great game concept, runs well and smooth, nice aesthetic appeal.

Really cool game. It also looks really nice.
EDIT: I played it a bit more and I think there is a bug, sometimes the blocks just disappear in the air... I had it happen to me 2 times. And also why cant i move the block around after pressing down? I dont like that feature...

Zylum strikes again!
Okies, a couple of features:
- occaisionally monocoloured blocks dissapear when you press down.
- occaisionally pattern checking is done before the block reaches the 'ground', thus you get lines dissapering as the block is still on its descent.
- I play past level 9 I think, and I got this error:
"A run-time error...
Line 70 : Process "gameLoop": Illegal picture ID number '0'..."
Otherwise awsome, as per usual.

thanks everyone for the comments
as for the bugs mentioned so far, i've encountered them already myself... except for the one about getting past level 9 lol you must have been playing for a long time Delos
how i did the score and level fonts was i made a custum font in paint and then i just loop through each digit in the score/ level and draw the appropriate picture
coming in the future:
-music (if anyone wants to make some sound effects for me go ahead, you'll be mentioned in credits)
-fix bugs
-intro and gameover screen
-additional game modes
-difficulty settings ie more colours of gems

Long time? Noooo...I'm just a Gems master!
Anyhow, how about you just initialize your counter to 9, then play for a minute or two, reach the transition point and see what happens.

I'm on Linux, so I had to try and WINE it. It almost worked, except before it even starts, I get the same error as Delos:
code: | An run-time error has occurred in this program.
Line 103 of : Illegal picture ID number '0'. (Probable cause: picture was not successfully created) |
So, yeah. Seems that it's catching the same error Delos was. Let us know if you fix it, I'm curious as to what all the hype is about

ok i uploaded a new version with most of the bugs fixed... when i tried replicate the problem with the pics/level numbers, i didnt get any error. but that was after i made many modifications so maybe i fixed it...
tell me if you spot anymore bugs. ie sometimes it flashes and sometimes the blocks get drawn weirdly
btw Neo, i made it so that you can still move the block as it falls
