I prefer 3ds Max. Do not use Lightwave. It sucks.
Then Coutsos is going to come on and say to use Blender. Which I also have little experience in, but have seen some awesome looking renders. So maybe it's worth a shot too! (And its free.) You can check that out here.
I've actually been meaning to learn Maya as I've heard it's quite good, so try "buying" a copy of that. |

I personally prefer 3DSMAX over Maya. I found Maya's interface to be quite confusing.
another app to check out would be Cinema 4D. I haven't tried it out yet, but it has some very nice features and I saw some amazing work done in said program. |

Thanks for saving me some time Genesis. *cough*BLENDER!*cough*
Ahem... anyways, I was just wondering exactly what sucks about Lightwave? I've never used it, but I've seen some incredibly photorealistic renders from it. |

I like maya better, well maybe because thats the first program that I used.
But I uninstalled the personall edition because I can't render my 'creations' without the damm text they add, and downloading such an expensive product is well.. iunno |

I was just never a big fan of the Lightwave interface or setup. I used it for a short while before I got 3ds Max, and I find 3ds Max to be much more powerful, and a much better program, with many more features.
And I've seen some amazing renders from just about every 3d program out there, If you're good enough, you can do some pretty awesome things. |
