OS : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service pack 2
Previous OS : Microsoft Windows 98 SE
Pro's : All games work on it without a hassle. Most widely used platform so there are many people who can help you with tech support.
Con's : Sometimes it is very unstable on my PC. Most viruses and worms are targetted at PC's running windows and will only affect PC's running windows.
Additional Message : I am waiting to buy a second hard drive and I plan to put Linux on that.

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Market Price: ~1500 USD
Previous OS: Microsoft Windows 98
Pros: A lot of software is made for this, specifically XP as opposed to earlier ones. Just about everything I do is at least expecting me to use Windows XP, so it's very compatible.
Cons: Sometimes it randomly decides that explorer.exe should crash, I get Runtime errors when playing games, it slows down sometimes just to annoy me, it doesn't like when I try to configure it differently, it doesn't want me to delete files that I want to delete, it may freeze when you try to run defragment or disk cleanup.
