no.,.....
thats cuz zip files are already as compressed as they get...
(meaning the acuall .zip file is compressed..)..
like mp3s./.. they are already compressed pretty well... u dont gain much my ziping / raring them... rite?
so a rar file is not as cleanly made.. cuz it can be compressed..
notice a conversation about arhiving files has gone on for a week? sadening.... |

I'd rather be hungry. Unfortunately, I have the stench of corned beef to suffer with. |

Benchmarking (real-world results)
---Binary-and-Text-files---
Uncompressed (size on disk): 21.9 Mb
WinRAR: 13.9 Mb
WinRAR (second time over): 13.8 Mb
7z: 11.1 Mb
---Media---
mp3: 3.92 Mb
WinRAR: 3.82 Mb
WinRAR (second time over): 3.83 Mb
7z: 3.83 Mb
NOTE: media is already in compressed format (mp3)... and hence the conclusion of this investigation is that WinRAR is great for compressing already compressed data. on the other hand its is best that you use 7z for compressing uncompressed data. |

ahh.. but u did not try WINZIP (not using winrar to make the .zip files)_
and winzip 9.0 has a new compressesion level.... that compresses even better .. but thats new technology so some other ziip utilities may not work with it.... but its good for zipping stuff on ur comp cuz u have winzip 9 to unzip it..
not much gain on that mp3 eh....
7z tho.. exactly what is that??
and try winraring a file 3 times...
i wonder.... |

yea zip sucks.. but it is good for daily use.. zip is designed for fast compression and fast decomression.. other formats focus mainly on slow but stronger compression and fast decompression |

That's hilarious, templest.
Here's something:
I once unrarred 4 compressed CD images, then realised they were actually in .iso format and that somebody had set .iso's to be associated with winrar. An hour later, I was up four coasters. |
