someone once told me that if win xp is connected to a router, it will try to jump to the modem and lag up the whole lan, and by giving the DNS some kind of ip can fix this problem, does anynore know what to do? I'm dying here, thanx

for an existing setup press start > connect to > show all connections, and then find your lan connection and make sure that the appropriate piece of hardware is selected for the connect using: pane, and it should not have any troubles with the modem.

what? there's a easier way, just type an ip in the DNS part, i forgot what it is.
it's now faster because i unpluged the cable on the other computer, which also has win xp installed.

by the way, these computers do not form a lan, but they do use the same router
