I made this rpg as my turing game (the school project). I had a better one (2 player option, final fantasy tactics engine) but my hard drive got wiped. That was a month's work down the drain, so i threw this together in hopes that it would make up for it. Any advice is much appreciated Wink

nice, I like it, the music choice is pretty good. Although there seems to be slightly more enemies than desired. Pretty good game though, nice animations for the different moves, maybe make the text of gaining / loosing health a little better, eg: loosing health = red text, gaining = green health, also the battle scene, you could use a background as well.

Nice ... just a few things that could help with it.
here goes

- Your movement on the world map is very chopping, view.update can help
- Saying that your player is a mage his magic attacks should be much stronger than his physical attacks.
- Monsters seem to be too strong, first monster I fought made me use two potions.
- Your XoR'd image (when player is hit), so far has only worked for the mage, the others never XoR'd once
- You need sound FX for attacks
- Your world map is very bland, you need more graphics there
- Animations for attacks would make it more attractive
- I'm not sure if your creatures attack at random (plant, thug, dragon, etc.), should certain terrain for each creature
- The game just kinda starts, maybe a better intro to explain the story a lil
- Not sure if you did this, learn new spells when lvl'in up
- Not sure if you did this, find items, armour, weapons when enemy is killed
- Buy, sell items in a store or something.
- Have NPC's (non-player characters) walking around in town
- You definately need a storyline, a point to it... you can't just walk around
- Have other party members as well (a black mage could always use an extra hand in the battle field)
- Monsters have a chance to attack in groups ( two at a time)

thanks for the input!
-just like to say that i got newer version at school with a basic intro
-and you can get items for winning battles even in this version
-ive got sprites and maps for towns, but once i get the townspeople moving, they block doorways/entrances too often so i havent included it. (yet...)

-im presently working on smoothing animations for battles/giving enemies elemental weaknesses. Next im gonna make new spells available at certain levels, maybe mess around with the statup system (some lvl ups are great, while others really just suck). Also, im giving some enemies multiple attacks. Im having trouble giving enemies more animation, tho. (im really bad at editing images Embarassed ). I'll post an updated version as soon as i can ^_^

it is pretty good for a beginning program. I give +5 bits for your effort. Though there was one bug I found....

I was on the second map, and beat a monster, then I immediately died.....weird

I know about the 'instagib' bug in the second map. Not sure what's going on there, but ill lend the code to anyone who thinks they know how to fix it (it would be MUCH appreciated). Also, just in case noone has gotten this far, there is an alternate end if your lvl 5+. I'm going to post a new version by tomorrow. It's been almost completely reworked Wink

PS - On second map, for some reason a castle will appear where you spawn in the update. Sorry Embarassed

Okay, I've got the program running again (finally).
Please comment. You've been really helpful guys.
Oh, I made 2 exe's. One with the intro, one without (So you dont have to watch it everytime ^_^)

This game has alot of potenshal but there are some magor bugs i was geting, like when the game with out the inro there whould be no map at all and you could not get in to the castal. Another one was once when i tryed to run it seem like i did then it showed a game over screen Confused

I am not shure how you are doing the map and stuff, but i think it whould be better done with a title system witch is probly how final fantasy did it. It whould make it alot easer to make new levels are areas with a title system then hard coding everything.

Also why dose it say yes and no when u start and have no question or anything? May be it is just on my computer?

Some ideas:

show the bad guys HP

make is so the ether dose not chage your max mp to 400 and then chage your curnt mp to 4 and rather make it give you more right away mp.

make it so the elixer dose not chage your max mp to 400 then chage your curnt mp to 4 and rather just make it add more right away like it dose with the hp

LOL, one time i killed the bad guy and it showed the the thing when u win a battel and then i hit done it it whent to the game over screen.



Dont get me wrong tho, there are many good ideas in this game and i think that whith some more work it could aucaly be a very good game for turing. Just the random dieing is a bit anyoning Razz
