Random thought: 3rd party software is software that appends some functionality or something to "1st party" software. Would you be able to use the term 2nd party software? Perhaps to mean third party software that you developed? |

I'd define '2nd party' as an affiliated group. Say group A makes a game. Then group B makes an official expansion pack for it. Group C makes a mod. A is first-party, B is 2nd party and C is third-party. |

Not quite. The term "third party" is defined as "a person or group besides the two primarily involved in a situation, esp. a dispute."
As such, 1st and 2nd are you and company you are dealing with. Everyone outside of this is 3rd -- software mods, device accessories, etc. |

Also a good point. I suppose that makes more sense. |
