Has anyone here got any experience developing on the mbed (specifically with USB HID)?

I have been researching for almost 3 days now, trying to pull projects apart, googling, reading books but I cannot fully figure out how the HID Descriptors work. Is there anyone that could help me out with a quick and dirty? I'm specifically trying to get windows to recognize a 12 button gamepad and use the default HID driver.
