Meh. Depends how much you care about prom. I rented a tux, because it wasn't all that expensive and my girlfriend would probably whine if I didn't, haha. Do whatever you feel like! Make your own rules. One kid who was at my prom wore shorts, believe it or not, but it was the classiest, most stylish outfit.

Me? If I had gone to prom, I'd wear a tux and top hat. Maybe a monocle. But that's just how I roll.

As for a computer science forum not being the right place, I think that this is an excellent place to ask these kind of question because these are my kind of people.
