I realize that this is a compsci forum but not everyone is majoring in CS or CE... Just curious as to what the stats look like for the compsci community.. Specific comments regarding your specific situation is welcome as it might be useful for prospective students |

I dunno about the compsci.ca community, but most of the students in my programming classes are not computer science students. I'd hazard to guess that 60% of my classmates are in degrees other than computer science. |

I've started out in Mechatronics Engineering, later switching to Computer Science. But a few people I know just stuck it out with the program and graduated to work as Software Engineers anyway. |

I'm doing my degree in plain old computer science. I already went to school once for business otherwise I would have done a double major. I think it's good to get education in more than one field. |

^Agreed. I really really want to be able to do another major in either math or computer science. Though I realize you're probably talking about doing another major in a completely different field, like arts or business. |

I was completely lost in highschool, so I went into university not knowing what to expect and majored in biochemistry. After first year I had a good feel for how things work and got a new found interest in physics so I changed my major to biophysics which is sort of a new field. Its kind of difficult since it requires that I take almost all courses for physics majors plus biochemistry courses on top, but I find the material very interesting so it's worked out for me so far. What i learned from my experience is that if you are unsure as to what your interest is you can always do an open ended major for your first year and switch your major once you have a better feel for what is expected of you in university. This route might cause some minor set backs since there maybe prerequisites that you have to fulfill but at least you will end up making a more informed decision for your undergrad major. |

doing engsci in U of T, just finished first year. I'm leaning towards the aero option as that's what i like to do most, building robots and all. first term marks are pretty okay, only 2 marks came out for second term though.
got ESROP and currently working at UTIAS |

Computer Science and Combinatorics & Optimization would be my majors in getting a Honor's Bachelor of Mathematics degree, thus I chose Other as that is what this represents, at least to my mind. I also completed a Pure Math minor on top of that but it isn't on my degree. |

LOL Dan that sounds like my plan. 5 year compsci at waterloo + 1 year for co-op, and a 1 year for masters degree.
I really want to stay in university and get as far as I can, but it will consume so much of my life lol, and my gf will be disappointed if I have to wait like 10 years before we can settle down. |
