Would it be possible to take any courses in software engineering as electives to a Mathematics course, and still stay in the Faculty of Mathematics?

Also, I'm a bit confused by the 4-year course outline the softeng website shows. Do Software Engineering students really take six courses per term?

In theory yes. As a Mathematics student you can major in CS and take an option in SE -- that will open up a bunch of Software Engineering courses to you. You can also enroll into anything if you collect enough permission signatures from various levels of administration. Keep in mind that since Engineering classes are typically of a fixed size, there might not be any space in SE-only classes.

And yes, Engineering programs require heavy workloads.

Hmm. Didn't expect them to be that heavy @_@

Guess I am better off taking an option after all, and not specializing in SE >_>

it's definitely doable in my opinion. just gotta stay on top of work and don't procrastinate. also cs and soft eng learns more or less the same thing... it's just that course code is different. also SE class are fixed like tony said. so in first 2 year, it might be extremely difficult to take SE class. we got around 141 students in our class nd we always have same classes. we also don't get much electives until upper years.

as far i know, engineering hav more class hours (lectures) but get relatively easier (less amount) of assignments per week. other faculty such as science or cs usually have longer assignments (same difficulty though)

Yeah, I saw the outline. You guys don't get any electives until third year, it seems.

I think I'll take the longer assignments. At least in courses like this I'll actually be doing stuff, which might help with the procrastination >_>

I got to keep my hard hat, even though I've switched into CS. Not getting the iron ring is my only regret Sad

I'm fine without the iron ring. I prefer to have ringless hands, thank you very much >_>

Also, software engineering doesn't seem much like engineering at all, really. At least to me. So not getting the iron ring isn't a big deal for me.
