Macbook pro issue

So, I put my macbook pro to sleep for less than 5 minutes today, and when I opened it up it would not start up. I forced it to shut down by holding the power button and tried to restart it, but it would not restart. When I push the power button, the hard drive unlocks (funny buzz sound, if you've got a mac you know what I'm talking about) and then it shuts off again with a single very faint beep. The entire thing lasts about 2 seconds. I've tried resetting the battery, didn't do anything. The battery is full.
Anyone know what's wrong or have an idea how to fix it? |

I don't have any immediate ideas beyond trying to boot up while plugged into a power source (battery connection issue?) |

I'm not really sure of how to fix your problem, but maybe resetting the PRAM and/or NVRAM will fix it. Here is the KB article for doing it.
Also, I'm pretty sure that buzzing sound is not the hard drive "unlocking." I think it's the slot-loading drive checking for a disc (because it doesn't do it when a CD is in there). |

You're right about the buzzing being the disk drive. Also, since my computer won't boot at all (it is on for less than 2 seconds) I can't reset the PRAM/NVRAM by conventional means. I have a fealing I burnt part of the mobo or something. On monday I'll be taking it in to a shop to see what's up. |

Does it turn on long enough for you to even get the boot menu (by holding alt)? Also, try an SMC reset if possible. Just take out the battery, disconnect the power adapter, and then press and hold the power button for 10 or more seconds.
Edit: Hold it for 5 seconds. And here is the KB article. |

So, it turns out the logic board is dead, and as it happened 2 weeks after the warranty expired, it's an $800 repair ($600 parts + $100 labor + $100 because the campus shop is operated by extortionists). I actually can't afford it until OSAP or my health plan refund goes through. |

Call Apple and explain the situation. Sometimes they will do pity warranty repairs. |

Yeah, try Apple because the worst they can do is turn you down. |
