Anyone done a Comp Sci degree and gone into the IT Field successfully? Or are IT Degrees now the preference for this career choice?

Generally it is much easier to go from a CS degree into IT, as opposed to the reverse. Being in IT does not qualify you to do Computer Science, while many things you learn in CS could be applied to IT.

While theoretically this is true, there are very few non-IT jobs with heavy CS content, so it might not matter either way.
