Has anyone Ever Used Game Maker 8 or the like?

I am interested in getting a online multi player game through LAN set up and wondering what is an easy way to get started.

I used game maker back in version five.

It's good for getting into programming, but once you know how to program, you're better off using a real language.

I don't know if they've changed any of this, but when I was using it, functions didn't even have named parameters, you had to use argument1 through argument10, and there was a fixed number that this went up to (may have been more than 10), there was no way to say how many arguments your function even took.

It was also semi-object oriented, except that there was only certain variables you could set on objects (x,y, velocity, &c), you couldn't give them your own instance variables, you had only local variables and global variables.

Arrays were also lacking, and you could use two dimensional arrays, but nothing more, and you couldn't index a two dimensional array to get a one dimensional array from it, you had to access each cell individually.

Just some of my thoughts on it.

e; the network tools in it were really easy to use, though.
