With E3 over, I would like to take the time to ask everybody what they think of Sony Move (i.e. Wiimote with knobs on the end.) and Microsoft Kinect (i.e. Waving your arms around is a game.)
The previous thread on this, is Here
To start with, why would Microsoft change the name to Kinect? Project Natal may be a working title/project name, but it sounds better than Kinect. |

This demo pretty much kills it for me, though the DVD controls could be cool. I'd still prefer a regular controller or remote though. FPSs just would not work. |

This tech looks cool, I can see it coming to home theaters for movies and TV, but for gaming? Not really, it'll die like the EyeToy.
Never saw the one Insectoid saw, but this one is what really turned me off. The sheer ridiculousness of what you'll look like.

I heard that it doesn't work if you're sitting down, and that Microsoft or developers won't comment on it. |

I watched a short little video for Microsoft Kinect (have yet to see Sony's Move, but I have heard a lot about it over the past few months).
The Kinect was made to look amazing in the video (I watched it from a link on my XBOX 360 dashboard, but I am sure it was the same one shown at E3). The part that fascinated me the most, but seemed to get the least attention was the "hand's free media" at the end of the video, where the husband and wife are sitting on the couch scrolling through videos and then one says "watch movie", that would be amazing!
It is all too obvious that Kinect is a showing of things to come with the next generation of the XBOX, even though it is made to work with the XBOX 360 from what I understand.
Anyway, does anyone know when Kinect will be released in stores (I didn't watch any coverage of E3)?
That leads me to another question, where can I go to watch coverage E3 now that it is over (either coverage of the whole thing, or just some highlights)? |

Actually, from what I remember from last E3, Kinect and Move are supposted to extend the life of the XBOX and PS3. |

Well I have heard that to, but it these are clearly going to be the sorts of things are clearly going to be capitalized on by the next gen systems. |

Yes, it is. It's called EyeToy. It was a collection of PS2 mini-games that used a webcam to track your movement. I'm aware that Kinect is more advanced, and has a few extra features, but it's still basically EyeToy.
The main problem I see with Kinect (disregarding the whole "you look like an idiot" thing) is that it's pretty limited in the type of games it can be used for. It's basically limited to games where you stand more or less in one spot, while moving body parts around. And honestly, the number of different games you can make like that are pretty limited.
Not to mention that, like the EyeToy showed us (and that new tony hawk game with the skateboard controller, I guess,) People really, really don't like jumping around while they play games. A bit of mild arm waving is tolerable for most people, but when you start asking us to stand up in one spot for a couple of hours, people tend to drop it after a week or two in favor of something less active.
Oh, and $149 for a motion tracker is absolutely idiotic. |
