Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints on how to look for a summer internship program in computer science, and if im even slightly qualified for them. I will be finishing my second year of computer science at MacEwan University in Edmonton Alberta. In computer science i have taken
CMPT 101 Introduction to computing (little bit of c++, very basic, very intro)
CMPT 114 Introduction to computing science (Introduction to OOP, Java, fundimental concepts)
CMPT 115 Programming with Data structures (More java)
CMPT 272 Formal Systems and Logic (more of a math course)
CMPT 201 Programming Methodology (large projects, SDLC, done in C)
CMPT 230 Introduction to Computer Games (Computer Game Design course)
CMPT 229 Computer Organization and Structure (Hardware and Assembly Language course)
And after this semester
CMPT 291 File and Database Management (Database design and implementation course (done in hypersonic )
CMPT 250 Human-Computer Interaction I (HCI design and practices)
as well as a bunch of math courses and such
Really want to get some experience on my resume in regards to computer science, however if I need another year before I know enough that's fine. Just looking for peoples opinions and suggestions.
Also, i am thinking of finishing my undergrad degree here at MacEwan, which will be rolling out its Ba program starting next year. I still have time to transfer to a university like University of Alberta. Just wondering if it will look badly to have a degree from a less well known institution. Ive been talking with my professors about if there will be a coop program and the answer is mainly "hopefully", "maybe" and "we should be able to work something out, even if it isn't a formal coop". I do like MacEwan for the small class sizes and the 1 on 1 with the professors but if staying will make it harder for me to get a job in the future im willing to go to UofA
Looking forward to hearing from everyone |
