I ask the same question about some people.

Agreed!

There are tons of uses for this.

Having a HUD built into your car windshield would be amazing
-you could have gps maps built into the top corner with turn by turn directions
-all the dashboard info could be at the bottom so depending on how you focus you see the road or your speed

Sun glasses with a clock that appears in the corner, and anything else you want

you get the idea

That would be amazing, although I know some cars before had this kind of projection system where it project a HUD on to the windshield in the corner. It wasn't very bright, clear, or big though, so I guess this would be a lot better.

I just thought of another use. If there was a screen big enough, you could cover a window with it. Just press a button and the screen will become solid, therefore making "virtual" blinds. Plus, you can have it show videos and stuff. Maybe some scenery?

gees the hate
if you hate them so bad, they why do you semi troll them?

OT

Now that I think of it, yes there is almost a infinite amount of uses for this type of display... Last night I came up with a really cool idea. a PSEUDO 3D screen basically its a bunch of OLED displays and each of them have a different image of the same image on them so lets say you have a tree the would show up in a certain zone of each screen ultimately creating a pseudo 3D image. Almost like a hologram. Then Around the screens There would be the "controller screen" that again is A OLED screen that is also a touch screen allowing you to interact with the object.

Anyone want to help me invent it Very Happy we'd make millions!!

I am hoping for HUD in sun glasses in the next 20 years. This could be a good step towards that.

Just think if you added two small digital cameras in the frames, you could have tracking of objects in the real world in your HUD.

Also since you could display different images in each lens, it should be possible to make the HUD look 3D to the user. So rather then just a flat image it could display text or other things with depth in the environment the user is in.

Tho there might be issues with how the eye would try to focus on pixels so close and the real world at the same time. Which may be why most 3D using OLED type technology is current done simply by blacking out a lens completely in sync with a video source that is timed to show the image for one eye for a few milliseconds and then the next (fast enough that it is not noticed by the user).

...or it'd cost a fortune compared to, say, polarized 3D displays, which are currently in use? Besides, I doubt that "objects" constructed of layer upon layer of TOLED are going to look any kind of good, as you'd be looking at the edge of the screen.

Edit: The idea of a HUD in various transparent objects isn't bad though, with the caveat that you DO need to be able to see through car windows, so there would have to be controls on how much area can be displayed opaque at any point.

Oh, I have never heard of a 3D display *googles*

Yeah, the HUD should be in the corner or something.

on a related note, here's some research being done at york university, that might result in new possibilities for screen and electronic devices.
