I just bought a Sony VAIO laptop, with NOrton Internet Security on it. However, the actual software is not installed; it just comes with an installer. Since Norton sucks and avast! rules, I decided to delete the two folders in Program Files (x86) called Norton INstaller and NOrton Internet Security. When this failed, I went to Task MAnager, killed the Norton Installer Process, and proceeded to delete that folder. However, I couldn't kill, under services, the Norton Internet security one, and it's still there on my comp. I then installed avast!, and the resident protection doesn't work; everytime I set it to high, close avast, and reopen it, it says it's disabled. Also, i'm using windows 7 home premium and I can't find the blue icon at the bottom right for resident protection. How come resident protection is being screwy, and how can I completely get rid of norton? |

Have you tried installing a different free antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials? Also I'm guessing the installer is not showing up under the Program and Features list? |

I think s/he meant the programs list in the control panel; however, I would just install ccleaner if you can't find it in the programs list and the processor is still running, use ccleaner to block it from starting up altogether, sure it will still take up your HDD space but meh, wont be more then a few MB. |

since it is a new computer it is safe to assume that it is the latest version. |
