|
|
I have a few questions I have about the Computer Science program at University of Waterloo which I came across while visiting the University of Waterloo website and www.electronicinfo.ca. I will list the questions below:
1) At www.electronicinfo.ca, it says that the enrolment for the regular computer science program at University of Waterloo is 60, is this an accurate number of the actual enrolment or is it an estimate or baised on previous years?
2) In the fall 2010 paper AIF for current high school students listed on the University of Waterloo website to be filled out if you are applying to the Computer science program, it asks which program you are applying, but doesn't offer Computer Science or any programs offered by the Facility of Mathematics as one of the options. I was wondering why it doesn't and if you were applying to Computer Science which one you were to select.
3) I was also wondering if you apply to the Computer Science program and you have a Admission average in the high 80's or low 90's, how likely you will get accepted to it.
4) How much does your score on the Euclid competition and CCC affect you in getting accepted, or do they just look for participation. |

1) There's definitely a lot more in co-op
2) Math (and Engineering) faculties have their own AIF forms. Fill that out instead.
3) If your English is also around that 80/90 average, you should be in a good position.
4) A good Euclid or CCC score can definitely improve your chances at getting in. |

1) i was told there are 1500 new math students, and at least 1000 of us must be computer science it seems.
2) dunno
3) if you're over 85 average, then you should be safe getting in (so long as your english is above 80) talking to a few people here, some got in with 83's.
4) probably, but if you are over 85 average, you should get in anyway. |

400 new CS majors per year, about, and 3/4 of them are in co-op.
Euclid and CCC in the (academic) year of application do not affect admissions (they're too late) but can have a minor positive effect if done in earlier years. They do affect scholarships in the year of application. |

Thank you for all of your responses. I got one last question which I forgot to ask. What is the difference between the Computer Science program and the Software Engineering program offered at University of Waterloo. Also is there any difference in the type of jobs you can get from taking the Computer Science program and Software Engineering program or do both programs have the opportunity of getting the same type of jobs. |

CompSci, SoftEng, et. al. Take a look at the Course Calendars for exact differences in courses.
For the most part, there will be the same opportunities from either program. |

No period after et, since it is the full word ("and").

And, if you want to save yourself some money, apply to a general math major for first year. You will be taking the same courses and paying $2000 less per semester, which saves you $4000. And if your CS grade is decent you won't have a problem switching afterwards.
If it isn't, perhaps CS wasn't the greatest choice anyway.

I wouldn't do that if I were you, I've heard that you can mess things up badly if you try to exploit that loophole. |

Tony said how Math and Engineering facilities have their own AIF, but I am unable to find the Mathematics Department AIF on University of Waterloo Website. Have they just been not posted yet, or are they on the site and I am just not able to find them? If they are on the site, could someone provide me a link to it? |

I believe there is a mistake on the website with the AIFs, since the AIF listed for the programs in the Facility of Mathematics for Fall 2010 Paper AIF, is actually referring to a common AIF, and not a department specific AIF like the Winter 2010 paper AIF is referring to. |

It could very well be the case that there's an error on that page, or something is out of date. |

just to make sure... NOT writing the CCC/Euclid/DWITE does not negatively impact you chances, right? They are only a boon, correct?
Also, can I effectively put myself through the CompSci program if I do the Co-op? I have this theory in my head that with a big bundle of savings going in, you can make enough money to pay for succesive school terms. Am I entirely insane, or actually close to the money? (teehee) |
