So, I've been wondering about this for a while. Are programmers more likely to be atheist than religious? And this, a poll is born. So the options:

I am:

An Atheist: There is no god. When you die, your conscience dies with you. It doesn't matter what you did in life, weather you were good or bad. Your time is over.

Religious: There is a god[s], when I die, my soul is going to go somewhere nice unless I'm a bad guy.

Ex-religious: I ditched religion for one reason or another.

Ex-atheist: I needed a purpose in life, and religion gave me that.

Select the option that best represents you!

This is a completely unscientific, unprofessional survey for my own interest.

I believe in God, but I'm not a religious person.

Well, You fit into the poll's definition of religious, so you're fine.

I don't quite, I don't believe in Hell where you're banished for all eternity if you do something bad during your life time. (Voted for that anyway)

Is it? I don't mean to start a debate or anything. Just vote in the poll. No discussion or anything. Rdrake, I think you jump to conclusions to fast. But let's not debate that Razz.

Atheist. Certainly your actions in life can have a profound effect on those around you, but they're not going to affect where your (hypothetical) "soul" goes afterwards.

I suppose Ex-Religious. I was raised catholic, but somewhere along the line I just decided it wasn't for me. Although agnostic would probably describe me better than atheist. I have no problem with there being a higher power, and I don't dismiss the idea of it, but personally I have no belief in one.

I'm agnostic more so than any category there but ex-religious sums me up pretty well as while I did go to Catholic school for 10 years and did receive a few Sacrements, I'm not sure I totally believe that faith anymore though I do think there may be a higher power I don't want to rely on faith for belief in its existence.

That's rather um... wrong.

As an atheist, I don't believe that there is a god, however I certainly think it matters what I do in life. The things you do in life affect all those around you no matter your beliefs, and certainly matters.

It doesn't matter to you though, does it?

I think he meant that as a continuation of the previous sentence, not meaning that they don't care how they act, but more that atheists don't think how they act now will affect them when they're dead, which makes sense, because atheists don't believe in an afterlife.

Yes, I meant that it doesn't matter to you what you did. You could be the biggest asshole (classhole?) and share the same fate as the pope (he sure didn't expect that!). The people that are still alive will be affected by what you've done, but it will not affect what happens to you.

i really need to make a dictionary.

Christian bible: a "fictional" novel that was written many years ago and has been revised into many different versions until it has reached the one as we know it as today. Usually people of a certain religion use this as their basis of their morals and way of life, thus almost wasting a year of their entire life sitting and listening to a old man read phrases from the book and together sing songs about someone who literally was like bam world, water, light, animals and people.
