I know the electronic info site and the Waterloo view books have low 80s as a cutoff, but I've heard of people getting in with dangerously low marks. I was wondering if anyone on these forums has gotten in with similar marks to these.

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

-My grade 12 marks are in the red box.

I originally wanted to go to Ryerson for computer science, but I've grown to love the Waterloo campus. I'm also much more motivated to do well in school/cs/math when I'm surrounded by "smarter" people. There are more of these at Waterloo than at Ryerson mainly because of their low cutoffs, and I think I will do much better at Waterloo making secret rivalries with the bright students there Razz

Also, I did not write the Euclid contest because I had an English group presentation on the same day, and I would rather skip out on the contest instead of letting my group down. Would not writing the contest when I said I would write in on the AIF greatly lower my chances of being admitted?

Has anyone here gotten in with similar marks/situations as mine?

I thought you said in February that you'd been accepted.

i have an over 85 average, with maths over 90, and i haven't gotten accepted to it yet, getting kind of worried. a lot depends on your aif too, so if you have a strong aif i'd guess you have a good chance of getting in.

your grade 12 marks are fairly competitive for any Canadian university. However, your grade 11 marks, no offense, leave a lot to be desired. If those marks had an average in the high 80's, you would've gotten yourself early admission to any university, no problem. And Ryerson + CS? I've NEVER heard Ryerson being good at anything (from other people and to the best of my knowledge) other than Engineering and perhaps Journalism. I've heard Waterloo and U of T having good CS programs, but never Ryerson.

My verdict: It's fairly hard to say.

I have a friend doing CS at U of T, he says it's absolute hell and it's impossible to get help from anyone. It's getting crossed off my list of potential universities...

Did he try asking a professors or TA? I don't go to U of T but i do know some of the CS professors there and they seem like the type that are very friendly and willing to help there students.

Also most professors have office hours where they are there to help any student that comes by. I find it hard to believe that they are unwilling to help.

At Lakehead we have something called the LAC (learning assistance center) witch offers tutoring services to students for a fair rate in any subject, i am sure U of T has something close to the same and he could allays post here for help as a last resort Wink

idk what happened but it appears that i have 2 advanced function courses although i only took one going to ask guidance to fix it on monday, but it's kinda too late cause it's already submitted into university....

basically my avg is 88.86 and -1 % for repeating english, -1% for taking english in private school and -1% for retaking advanced function (although i didn't but my stupid guidance messed up)

that makes my avg 85.86%

think i have a chance?

Yeah, I doubt that this is generally true. Please get some specific details and report back. (Though the first two years at U of T are now taught by lecturers, not professors.) --PR

hmm, I think there's something like 3000 people in his class. I only spoke to him briefly, as he is drowning in work, as I said. But I made sure to recommend the site, no worries Dan Wink and Prabhakar, if I have a chance to talk to him again, I most definitely will. On a totally unrelated topic that you will all hate me for for taking this thread off topic, anyone ever hear of the software scribble? Apparently I'm related to the guy who wrote it

There's lots of software called "scribble" -- in fact, this is the name of the documentation system for PLT Scheme (the software we use at UW in first year). Which one were you referring to?
