Recently, you will have noticed that there are quite a few posts in help sections that are just plain confusing to understand or perhaps there are no syntax tags and etc. The idea I came up with was having it so that when you would click create new topic in the help section, the default message would be a template that would able to be filled out. This would reduce the confusion in posts that lack clarity and/or have a lack of tags. Also, it would give allow everything to be presented in each point so that it is easy for anyone wanting to provide help to actually provide help. So, I was wondering what you guys would suggest that the template additionally needs or doesn't need, and even if you agree with having a template idea or not. The template we (Me, Dan, euphoracle) currently have come up with is the following:

Quote:

What is it you are trying to achieve?

What is the problem you are having?

Describe what you have tried to solve this problem

Post any relevant code (You may choose to attach the file instead of posting the code if it is too long)

language:
Add your code here if you wish to

(Note language would be specific to the form and put in appropriately)

Please include any code that is not part of the standard library (You may choose to attach the file instead of posting the code if it is too long)

Please include what compiler - as well as the version of the compiler - for the language you are using

Edit: I would appreciate if people would post their opinion by the weekend since that means we don't have to wait forever Laughing . Though, you can still post your opinion anytime.

The last two are kinda irrelevant to Turing. Well maybe the version, maybe make them say if they have v4.1 or not.
Though "Describe what you have tried to solve this problem" is beautiful since it'll stop the idiots who want their h/w done for them...maybe. A little thought process would be wonderful.

I agree those are mostly irrelevant to Turing, however the one that I have shown is a general one for any language.

This template has been implemented in the Turing help section of the forum for a test run. Thanks for the feedback.

Definitely a brilliant idea for the Turing Help forum, but possibly unnecessary in the other ones. Provide it anyway, people can delete it if they don't like it.

But it should be noted that those posting in Turing Help without following that kind of template will be referred back to that template until they give an adequate problem explanation.

Looks great to me... now if only people would stop reviving dead threads.

Dan, can we get autolock after say 4 months?

agreed...looks great

edit:

mabe add a part for the person to say if it is a school project, and how much knoweldge they have, then we can keep the code in their range of knoweldge and understanding.
