i'm a current student at UW and my avg is mid-low 70's.
i want to go to cs grad school in either uw of uoft and was wondering what marks and what other stuff are needed to get in.
i assume i need at least 80% to get in, right now I'm done 2B, and would my marks in 1st & 2nd yr won't be considered
if my marks in 3rd & 4th yr are above 80%?
and these schools all require 3 references, and I really don't know where to get those from especially it's hard to be able to get references from the profs,
unless you do URA's or something similar, but they require 80% avg, which I don't currently have. |

Most schools i have looked in to have had the requirement of 70% or B for grad school however U of T was a bit higher i blive with 75%. Tho this is just the minimum and you may need a higher grade to beat out the other applicants.
Also this average is noramly not the average of all the courses you took in your undergrad but the last X courses, the 4th year courses or some other selection (it changes university to university so you will have to check with each one you apply too). But noramly 1st and 2nd year are not counted.
References should be from professors and at least in my experience where not hard to get. Most profs seem to have a fourm letter they use and all that i talked to where very willing to help me out, and other then one prof who i did do a URA with, i just had done normal classes with them. My university is smaller tho so you get to know the professors there better then you might in bigger schools.
Mid to low 70s will get you in to grad school at some universities (probably not u of w tho) with good references and other application material (most schools also ask for a resume and a statement of purpose). It can also help a lot to already have funding or a prof willing to supervise you.
I just went threw all the application stuff for grad school this year and just rencetaly got an offer, so if you have any more questions just ask (tho some other users might know u of w's grad school admissions process better then i do, as i did not apply to them). |
