Hi, I have applied to following 3 programs via OUAC:

1st choice: Computer Science at Ryerson University
2nd choice: Computer Science at UofT Scarborough
3rd choice: Computing Science at UOIT

I heard Ryerson computer science was good at the time i applied (3 months ago), but I'm not sure as I've heard much bad talked about Ryerson. I know learning experience depends on the person, but for reputation and job offers I don't know if Ryerson is the best move.

I put UofT because I plan on going there if for some reason Ryerson declines me and UofT accepts me. I don't know about their program or UOIT's but I put them because I don't want all of my eggs in one basket.

I didn't apply to Waterloo because my friend scared me away from it since he got 95 in Advanced Functions, Calc, and Physics but is getting 30s in Waterloo Comp Sci.

So...back on topic...how is computer science at Ryerson? Will I have just as good job opportunities as a Waterloo or UofT grad? And what about the quality of grads Ryerson produce? Are they good compared to Waterloo grads? You don't need Calculus and Vectors for Ryerson comp sci (though it's highly recommended), which hints at the difficulty of the program. I want a challenging program since I am paying 5k+ for tuition...

Oh, and how are my chances of getting in with these marks (so far)?

MHF4U Advanced Functions - 76% (THIS IS THE ONLY FINAL MARK I HAVE, REST OF MY COURSES AREN'T SEMESTERED)
ENG4U English - 78%
SBI4U Biology - 84%
ICS4M Comp Sci - 90%
TGJ4M CommTech - 77%
CGR4M Resource and
Environment - 94%
MCV4U Calculus and - 100%+ (Just started this only had one test which I got 100% on, won't be on report card 2)
Vectors

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I ditched UOIT, I don't plan on going there, so now it's between UofT and Ryerson...

A while ago I briefly took a look at Ryerson U -- http://compsci.ca/blog/computer-science-at-ryerson-university/. Also, keep in mind that UofT Scarborough is a different campus from UofT downtown-Toronto.

In short -- no, you will not have the same opportunities as you would from Waterloo, which in turn is not the same as UofT(downtown). Though the key point is that it's "not the same" -- the quality of opportunities at either institution is what you make of it. One can't expect to be given an amazing job on the sole basis of attending a particular University -- you will be presented with a certain environment and you play the game.

Re: your grades -- each Uni publishes their expected grades. That should give you an idea of where you are.

FreshPrince,

You should be able to get into Ryerson Computer Science with your average provided all your courses have an average above 60% and your final average in one of the maths (I think it was calculus) is atleast 65%...or something like that.

In my year, for Computer Science, you needed to have above 60% in all and an overall average of atleast 70%.

Yea, this was an old topic. I got into UTSC and Ryerson, changed my UOIT choice to Waterloo, haven't heard anything from there yet. And I always meant calc and vectors was at 95+, not at 100+ lol. I'm at an 88 now anyway :S

But ye no need for this topic really.
