I've been reading up on Bison; bumped into an interview of Stephen Johnson, the original author of yacc.

He figures the next compiler compiler parser generator should be in the area of GUI development.

So, want to be famous? Write the First Awesome Gui Generator (ok, maybe Preface To Looky Feely or NextGen). Do a good job (not Glade mind, Glade type tools are just a layer above the "assembly style" work required for graphical interfaces that most coders now have to go through) and you could be one of the next big names in computing.

I envision that this will require a Donald Knuth level of computer science insight, but start pondering young and maybe some eureka moments will strike.

And I'm not even envisioning the power of VID (REBOL's Visiual Interface Dialect) simplicity. NextGen won't be a simple tool. It'll be fairly complex and produce elite results when wielded by skilled professionals.

Just pondering
Cheers

Smile

Some might call it conceited or egotistical, but the developer(s) that pull off NextGen will have that exact attitude going in. They will know it can be done before it is done. They will then work the problem, rework and then refine the solutions.

P.S. Can you tell I have an unflinching faith in the capabilities of the good members of compsci.ca and expect greatness?
