cs4u@waterloo day is , I've been told, a day where waterloo invites future CS students to visit the campus. I would like to attend, but want to know what sorts of things go on on this day. If anyone has participated, could you provide a brief run-down of events? (I'll probably go no matter what, I never miss free pizza!)

Off topic old guy ramble

Back in the 80's we exposed the "children" to a tour of the Math and Computer building, a glance down into the computer pit and then some lab time. We showed off the 800 pound terminals and logging in and out of time share equipment.

Then usually demonstrating a few tricks with regular expressions and simple programs to accept the students name and display it in reverse.

I can only guess that that is NOT how things will run now-a-days with the younger whipper-snappers. I'd guess the hour or two in the lab would be spent generating a life-saving defibrillator demo program in under 6 minutes then 54 minutes making it look all pretty. Wink

Cheers
Tony

from what I understand, there are some talks or presentations put together by the University, aimed to convince high school students that CS is an interesting subject, so that more students apply to major in it.

If you are not sure if CS is for you -- try it out. I would imagine that they would have the topics of talks and/or events posted on their website somewhere.

If you want to see the campus, you are better off coming out to the Waterloo Tour and Wings 2009 event. Wink

I already know I want to get into CS, just not what branch of it. Waterloo is hopefully where I'll end up, so it would be nice to see what they've got. Plus, free pizza! Waterloo tour? I'll see what I can do.

The previous two years were on March 11th. 2009's will be around the same time. It might be held on the same day as UW's Open House event, so one could choose to attend parts of one and then another.
