Hey guys,
I am a current grade 11 student. Aiming for computer engineering next year.
Which university should I pick, U of T or Waterloo.
And also I am considering post graduate studies, does is affect my choice?
p.s. What is the possible requirements for early acceptance? (I have an average around 93%).
Thanks in advance!

Both UofT and UW are good choices for Computer Engineering, but the programs and universities differ substantially in how they are run and what's covered in the program. I would suggest you choose based on which university you would be happier at (go to the campuses, take a tour of the residences, sit in on a few classes).
With a 93% average (which is around what mine was), you will have no problem getting accepted into the program of your choice. 93% is sufficient to get into Engineering Science at UofT, and it's enough to get into Computer Engineering or Software Engineering at UW (though I think it's about 2% away from the cutoff point for Nanotechnology Engineering at UW).
Post-graduate studies can be an entirely separate decision - there's no restriction that you have to take your masters' or PhD at the same university as your bachelors'. |

While both are fine schools, you may want to do some digging into what research areas both schools focus in on that may be where you'd like to see if you could be a research assistant for some professor that is working on something cool that you'd like, e.g. Waterloo has some folks that make the computer program called Maple.
Another factor is what kind of living arrangements would you want to have, what kind of scholarships are available, etc. is something else to consider as my high school graduation average was 91% and I got into all 3 of my university choices and just took the one that had the most $ for me in terms of scholarships.

That might play a role if someone gives you a substantially larger scholarship over all other choices. Though normally those could come from (arguably) less reputable schools, trying to attract brighter students.
Waterloo isn't well known for giving out large scholarships, but it should be noted that it's much cheaper to live in Waterloo than it is to live in Toronto. If I was to get living arrangements of the same quality (size, building quality, proximity to university) that I currently have in Waterloo, but for University of Toronto, the latter would easily cost me 3 times as much. (note that I don't live in residence, as that is considerably overpriced) |

Thanks for all you guys' replies!
I guess I can do a little bit more research and consider some other factors.
Thanks again! |
