Hey,
Windows Movie Maker normally edits my AVI files. From my digital camera, I made a video, and it was in MOV format. I renamed it to AVI, because WMM doesn't accept mOV. (yes, i went into tools>view, so I could make sure I took out the MOV part).
Now, windows media player says
The file (file is here) cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.
Any help? |

Note: I still have the MOV file on my camera. So if any of you have a good free converting program that doesn't have a timelimet or watermark.... |

From my (brief) experience, VirtualDubMod handled just about anything I could throw at it. It might make a good alternative to WMM. Otherwise you'd need to convert the .mov video file using something like SUPER. SUPER can handle just about any video file you can imagine and convert it to just about anything (since it uses several open source encoders), but its interface sucks.
Oh, and as per your second post; both programs above are free and I believe open source, no watermarks to ruin your videos. |

Just as a note, renaming a file does not change it's filetype. It needs to be re-encoded to truly be an AVI. |

Like rdrake said, you have to use another video editing program or re-encode it with a program like VLC player (maybe?). Also, like Clayton said, renaming the file to a different file type doesn't actually change what's in the file. |

I'll add my voice to vdub; I've used it before for some simple editing and it's a pretty versatile piece of software. |

Hey guys, I downloaded Super and converted something. (dragging the file into that box, clicking convert) and I am unaware at how to get my final file.
It can be found at c:\Program Files/eRightSoft\SUPER\OutPut, but when I try and take it out of there my computer freezes
It doesn't freeze unless i do this. |
