From now on (once stock is gone), if you want XP, you'll have to buy Vista and take the optional upgrade back to XP path.
Reminds me of this "up from the engineers through management" story;
A low level manager shows his team a project plan that came from the top. After a short period of analysis, the engineers report back; "It's shit and it stinks". The manager goes to his boss, and being management, reports; "It is like manure with a very strong odour, such that none may abide by it". This middle manager goes to the board to report on their plan; "It is powerful and promotes growth!". So the project was implemented.
Cheers

Or you can take the "easy" way out of getting XP.

So long, farewell, you will not be missed. You have had a long run and it's time to rest.

Put to rest so Vista can take over ? I fail to see why it won't be missed. Yes, most people that care enough to get a good, stable OS are probably not using Windows, but for the rest of us, I'd take XP over Vista anyday.

Does anybody ever have a good reason for this? XP is a dead OS, it's had its time. Really, I'd love some real reasons for using XP over Vista.

I haven't tried Vista (and won't in the near future) but from what I've heard... It still lacks support for many (some?) programs and drivers. It uses more resources than XP. It expands on many things which I originally hated in XP such as ugly themes, pointless toolbars/icons/programs. Also, what's with all the different releases? Was there any real difference between Windows XP Professional, Home, Media Center, etc?
Windows is usually good for gaming, Vista is not. At least, not where it hasn't been forced onto people (ie. DirectX 10)

I used to think all these things, then I actually tried it. Not looking back any time soon. Oh, the emphasis is mine.
Vista auto-detected and installed drivers for all my peripherals, I have yet to come across a program that does not work with it. The only programs that don't work well are the ones which weren't written properly in the first place. Even obscure hardware I have had drivers found. Anecdotal evidence on both our sides .
I don't understand the different releases, this is one dumb thing about Vista. And yes, it's a bit bloated when compared to XP. Though space is a lot cheaper, so I honestly don't care if it's larger or not.
Vista works well enough for gaming from what I've seen. The initial drivers were crap, but they're on par with XP now, so that's yet another myth about Vista people still have.

"Vista sucks" (whether true or no) doesn't make XP any better. That is a ridiculous meme that's simply been repeated so often that it is accepted as true.

Alright, I guess I can't say much without trying it, but I think I'll wait it out for a little while yet. Besides, I use too much Windows already, and I still haven't updated to FireFox 3.

I use both at the moment, and would take vista any day. The majority of criticism for vista is just run of the mill baseless anti-microsoft fluff.

I'm using Vista, I can say that my XP runs faster on a older/slower hardware than my Vista, which runs on newer/fancier hardware.

I tried Vista for 3 days (it came with my laptop). I have to say that a lot of things seemed better (security, admin tools, etc), but that those don't redeem it.
Startup times on the same laptop were halved by installing XP and Ubuntu. Under Vista, the high-powered machine was struggling to manage to bring up windows, but it flies under either XP or Ubuntu. This isn't to say that XP isn't a toy operating system, but at least it'll run.
Note: not a slow laptop. Core2 Duo, 2GB DDR2, reasonable graphics card. Shouldn't have any trouble running an operating system and an application or two...but it did in Vista.

Working with laptops running Vista at work all the time, I can verify DemonWasp's experience. A laptop with a 2.1GHz C2D and 3GB of RAM should not struggle to accomplish simple tasks.
A coworker has a Sony TZ160. Not a powerhouse, but it's orders of magnitude more snappy and responsive running XP, Ubuntu or Leopard (yes, he went the hackintosh route).

Most of the disliked features in Vista can be disabled; most of the problems have been addressed. I just don't use it because I don't want to spend the money for it. XP is still fine.

Also worth noting is battery life. Under Vista, the machine had about 3 hours of battery life. Not bad, eh?
Well, under Ubuntu and XP I can get 5 hours easily.
