Hello
If you are like me, vi is the bomb and emacs is for mutants with eight arms and twelve fingers. BUT; it is a powerful editor and along with picking up a little (or lot of) Lisp, it does have merit in the "good programmer" tool belt.
Anyway, digressing. Check out Oz; or in particular the Mozart implementation. It's got some pretty cool and modern features. The sad ass fact though, emacs is the out of the box IDE for Mozart. So, why not take the plunge, learn Emacs, Lisp and Oz all in one go. Again if you are like me, the hatin' of emacs may go away while learning a new programming language. Flying Monkey Mutants from the land of Oz aren't so bad after all.
