Seeing as so many of you guys have a Wii, I was wondering if any of you's were able to get your Wii connected to the internet using ad hoc. Now before you guys start telling me to get a wireless router, or the Wii USB WiFi Adapter, or the Wii LAN Adapter:

1. My residence does not permit the use of wireless router (I think if they find me doing this, they'll cut my connection)
2. I run Vista, and currently the USB adapter isn't compatible with it.
3. LAN won't work, unless I can get my Wii to mimic my laptop's MAC address.

I've googled the problem, and found one solution involving dongles, but I don't know what dongles are, or how to obtain one Embarassed
Also, I've heard you can use a macbook for this??

Dongles normally refers to bluetooth devices as shown:
Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

They can be bought at pretty much any electronic store and often come with wireless devices such as mice, and keyboards.

Some laptops have them built in (a bluetooth receiver) in which case you can use that as an alternative.

I believe in this case the guides are referring to wifi dongles, which are USB wifi adapters very similar to the USB Bluetooth adapter.

If you have built in wifi you don't need it anyways. How you set up everything I do not know however.

You can buy a wii usb network adptor and another usb network adptor for your computer.

Then hook your computer to your schools internet, and the wii usb network adptor into the usb computer one. Next bridge the connections (the internet one and the wii to computer one).

If done right the wii will use the internet threw your computer.

As far as i know the wii does not support adhock wifi networks.

You could also buy a noraml non wireless router, make it clone your laptops MAC and hook both your laptop and wii in to the router and the router to your schools internet.

So it looks like the only choices I have are to buy something, or to mess around with my wifi card. In that case I'll go with the former. Thanks for the advice guys.
