Hey does anyone know a unit that interfaces with ethernet and wireless to create an ethernet based connection for a computer that doesn't have wireless network support?

Such a thing would be handy for me because not all my computers have usb/wireless cards.

I have that setup up at my house atm

here's how mine's done:
computer with wireless card is connected to a switch
all computers that need internet are also connected to switch
computer with wireless card needs to go to network connections (or something like that) and bridge the LAN and internet connections together

that should do the trick

if you have no switch try a router

There are some dedicated hardware devices for that--mostly to allow VG consoles with Ethernet to connect to a WLAN.

if you have a wireless router, just run an ethernet cable from it to the computer in question. if not... where are you getting your wireless signal?

alright thanks for those suggestions I think i can do it momops way. And i'm not a retard compwiz... obviously my transmitter is in a room way too ridiculously far away from where I need internet otherwise of course I'd just run an ethernet cable to it.

Linksys sells boxes you plug a LAN into on one side and it bridges to wifi on the other (or vise versa). I do not know what they are called off hand, and I can't check. But they are very very cool.

Never said you were, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones we fail to see.

anyway good luck with your endeavours.

Powerline ethernet? Get two of those adapters, plug them into different outlets (near the two computers you need to bridge), and CAT5 cables from the adapters to the computers. Very cool and reliable, but kind of hard to find in Canada, BC at least, and relatively expensive.
