I dual booted Ubuntu on my ME so I wouldn't have to use ME all the time, however now when I use Ubuntu I can't get my XP to recongnize it on the LAN. Since my internet is sent over the LAN I can't use internet when I run Ubuntu but when I run ME (like I am now) it can be recongnized.
Any ideas? |

Make sure that you have the right drivers. |

JFGI
It's pretty hard for me to say, because I don't have your computer. |

assuming you're on your computer now in ME, check out the device manager and check your network card, and google that, see what you come up with, then check back here. |

the card is: macronix MX98715 Family Fast Ethernet Adapter...
I think I found a driver and am testing it now so I won't rospond for a bit (have to restart into Ubuntu which doesn't have internet) |

The driver worked and now Ubuntu recognizes XP, only problem is that XP does not recognise Ubuntu, would I need to install a driver on the XP too or is it another problem? |

If not, then chances are Ubuntu is not to blame. If you want to access your files in Windows that's easily done. |

Only a switch, but the computer can get connected when running it's default OS, Windows ME.
EDIT: I think I should clear things up a bit
My computer is dual booting Windows ME and Ubuntu
Windows XP can find the computer on the network when it is running windows ME but not Ubuntu
The LAN is set up through a BELKIN switch
I don't want it fixed for file sharing, but rather so that the Ubuntu can use the internet that runs through the LAN
I have a network driver for the ME/Ubuntu that works
Ubuntu can find XP on the network (and my brother's computer too) but cannot access any files, however files can be accessed on my brother's computer
I think the XP is rejecting Ubuntu
Tell me if there's anything else needed to know |

type ifconfig on the Ubuntu; my guess is that you _are_ using the same IP address on the Ubuntu and the XP. If that's the case, go to ME and type ipconfig to find the IP to use and the submask, gateway and DNS server settings. You should be able to configure Ubuntu to use the same settings as your ME. |

It should also be noted that there's no such thing as a "Windows LAN." Any LAN is pretty much open for any platform to use that has a TCP/IP stack.
I also second OneOffDriveByPoster's suggestion, try to replicate the settings on both operating systems -- they're using the same network card and the "switch" will still see the same MAC address. |
