Hi everyone, I see that a lot of people on this forum seem to be from U of W, so i'd like to ask how many people actually get into CS or SE each year out of how many applications? A rough estimate would be good, a statistical report would be awesome ^^ thanks

CS enrollment at Waterloo (scroll down to the second graph).

I hear last year it was 400~something.

Not sure about SE. I would imagine it being in the neighborhood of ~100 per stream.

I think SE is about 120 per year. Actually, that's just me assuming that my year was average.

I wouldn't mind if it was 20-30 per year. Less competition.

Or you mean... more competition?

More competition to get in, less competition once you're in.

Current targets are about 400 for CS (including half the count of students in SE and CFM) and about 100 for SE. In the past couple of years SE has overadmitted by about 20% -- whether to deal with their attrition or simply because they underestimate take rates, I don't know. CS has attrition issues as well.

Historical low for CS enrollment was something like 225 (not counting half of SE) in 2004.

I've heard that applications for UW CS were up 30-40% this year over last year. I don't know the figures for SE.

yea.. it seems like CS and generally all computer related subjects suddenly became popular, at least it is in my school.
