anyone know any good graphing calculator (or maybe a cheap deal somewhere?)? Im thinking of Casio, since its cheaper than taxes, and perhaps better?
most likely I'll need it for the rest of my school-life, so I better get one thats decent (all the functions that I will need for math or whatever), but not too pricey Razz , any suggestions? brand? rating of usefulness? cost?

TI-83 Plus

It works, and not like a Crackbook.

I'm familiar with TI-83. Found it useful as a calculator with a large screen. And the fact that you could code small programs directly on it. And play tetris... not so much it's graphing abilities.

It's graphing abilities exist. That's about all you really need, unless your aiming for 2nd+ year stuff.

I'd have to go with the TI-83 Plus (along with more expensive versions as well). I have friends in 3rd and 4th year calculus who claim that they probably would've died without their calculator, or at least some form of graphing software that can graph the different coordinate systems.

looks like TI-83 Plus is the way to go! (I like the part where can code stuffs! hehe) and pretty good deals on ebay too Razz
thanks everyone!

altho the coding part could be a distraction in disguise, just hope i spend more time on my actual homework than buffing up my calculator Laughing

Because of this topic I just purchased a TI-83 Plus, it should be here in 4 days or so! ^_^

Also, we were using them today in class, and I made a calculator on the TI-83 with the built in programming. It sort of stupid though, making a worse calculator on such a good one. Thats the world we live in, Calculators run calculators... Razz

I don't know why people buy graphing calculators. Do you even use them outside of assignments? Even then, does it actually help you learn?

Given that every course I've ever taken has banned graphing calculators from exams and tests... seems like a waste to me.

They allowed graphic calculators for first year Linear Algebra where I go.

Waterloo doesn't allow _any_ calculators in Math exams for Engineers... then again they are of little use there.

Whichever the cheapest one with a symbolic solver is. I know the TI-89 has one, but I don't know about the ones below it. Really helpful for checking work in calculus when you don't want to haul a laptop around.
