Hello,
Does anyone know of any ultra low cost windows web hosts?
I'm looking to spend up to 25/year (don't tell me I'm being cheap, I only pay 15/year for my unix webhosting)
I'm doing some work with CSharp, and WebServices, and I don't feel like using PHP-Soap, so I'd like to use .net WebServices cause there so easy to write, and use.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me. |

The only thing I can think of is hosting it yourself with IIS 5.1 (comes with XP Pro). You could also use Visual Studio's built in web server, but I doubt you want to have that running all the time.
Other than that, I'm not sure how lucky you'll get finding a cheap Windows host. |

nix based webhosting is almost allways cheaper then windows based hosting. I am not realy shure what justfication there is for this, i whould assume it has to do with lincesing copys of windows or it being harder to run or takes up more resorces.
If you only need the hosting for testing and devlopment then i whould think rdrakes idea of just seting your own up whould be best and cheapest.
$25/year is exteramly cheap for any hosting, thats only $2.08/month. CompSci.ca pays closer to $55/month for our hosting (tho that is for a hole server but we payed even more then that for our remote back up on a shared host [$7~$10/month]). |

I found godaddy (which I've used for domains before, but never hosting) is 3.99/mo, and I've gone with them.
They offer a minimum 2 months purchase which is nice, cause I didn't want to spend a ton of money just to find out what I wanted to do isn't even possible.
They do support Web Services which makes writing integrated web/c# apps extremely easy now. (So I'm very happy) |

Windows costs more because it's harder to administer, much more expensive to aquire, and generally speaking requires beefier computers to perform at the same level as *nix. |
