I have an another computer in my house. But, I want to connect the internet into that desktop computer. I can't plug any internet wire into the desktop, because the internet line is not long enough. But, can anyone tell me how to connect wireless internet into my desktop?
Thanks,
J. |

Or you could just buy a wireless router and wireless card for your desktop. |

If you want to just extend the internet line, don't extend it too much. Longer lines mean you wait longer . |

How is it bad? All I want to do is connect internet into desktop computer. I thought the modem or the internet "whichever one" wire has to line up with the computer. Maybe I'm wrong..? I don't know much about the internet. |

step 1: Get a compatible PCI card for wireless internet (I forget the actual name of the card) and a wireless router (make sure they're both compatible:802.11 b)
step 2: connect the router between modem and desktop #1 with the 'Ethernet cable'
step 3: Install the Wireless PCI card into desktop #2 along with any drivers necessary.
step 4: go to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesssetup.mspx
In step three they list the websites you can go to to configure your router and the passwords to those sites. Choose the site that corresponds to the manufacturer of your modem (they all start with 'http://192.168 . . .')
Step 5: when you get to the site, set up a network name (SSID) and a password if you wnat to secure your network. **Then, you must select an option to allow your router to network, or else nothing will work at all.** In the Linksys site, it has a separate tab, so don't let the option elude you.
Step6: On your desktop #2, open wireless network connections and connect to your uniquely named connection.
Don't get discouraged, as you may run into problems all the time. Just keep trying and ask if necessary. |
