Price of a domain name...

Hello everyone,


Someone recently offered me $75(cad) to purchase one of my domain names, magnify.ca

Do you think I should take it, or do you think this is too cheap?

If it was yours, what would you sell it for?

well from SEO perspective you've got nothing.. 0 PR, 0 backlinks, etc. There's no content ether.

so it's all in the name itself

magnify.de is a MFA (made for adsense) website (no content, just google ads) with an asking price of $628

All the other popular TLDs are taken (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us).

It's your call... what kind of venture is offering to buy?

All I know about it is its a company from Alberta that makes websites, and one of their clients wants the name.

I'm just wondering what people think is a good value for just the name.....I'm trying to take my greed out of the equation.

well... it's a shortish name and apparently they are willign to offer you $75. I say hold out though, if they are willing to pay $75 they are likely willing to pay more. Really there isn't anything they can do to take it away from you either.

.com and .net will not sell

all the other country domains are probably also out of the question (this is a Canadian company)

if they want this name, only thing left is .org, which has no associated site, and renews on per-yearly basis.

So how much more attractive do you think magnify.ca is over magnify.org ? Personally I would hold out for more.

See if you can get a better price, if not, sell it for 75$, what have you got to lose? But the fact that they were willing to contact you to get the name, well they MIGHT just want to badly Usually I hear only big companies doing this.

It's actually a fairly short domain name, and that in and of itself is quite valuable. Having a short domain means short email addresses which are easier to remember. That can be very handy. Unfortunately while my domain is only 8 characters long (including .org) it's not very phonetic so it's easy to remember, hard to get right.

Okay, just going by what I have read here, I will make an assesment.

You do not have any content on the domain, and it is of not much value to you. Beings such, it will not have much of an affect on the price.

However, concidering that Manginfy is an established Canadian baised company, and all other applicable domain names are taken, the value is brought up significantly.

...actually, I have to go. I have to get to Co-Op.

However, I will tell you that you could probably get atleast $200 for this domain (in my opinion). Given the factors, it is quite valuable.

It is of much value to me, I do have content on it, just nothing thats public, I use it as my development area for programming php. I've got tons of stuff hidden on there, and also have over 100mb mysql database. I also use it as my primary email account.


Right now I'm kind of worried about countering with 200....I'm not even sure if I want to part with it for that. I'm kind of attached to it, lol

I know it will take me more than a few hours of work to switch everything over.....email.....php programs....files.....etc....

Maybe I'll just counter with an extremely high offer and see what happens.

You know... you don't have to sell it. It's [your[/u] domain, and if you don't want to give it up there really isn't anything they can do about it.

Were it my domain I'd definitely be keeping it.

you should definately keep it. Only sell if your offered a huge amount of money.

In such a case $75 is a joke. Don't do it. I'd be reluctant to sell such for $200 either. Though if you're looking for cash, offer $600 based on that .de sale and see what happens.

It's a brilliant idea search for short, common-word domain names that aren't in use. It's just a matter of time before some company comes searching for it. I've heard of people who research this and actually make decent money. They locate a small company, buy the domain, then when the company grows, they sell it to them.

If I were u octopi, definitely wait. $75 is nothing, especially if u are actually using the domain. I agree with Tony, I'm sure u could easily pull off at least $600

Well, I don't know if you'll easily get it for $600, but if that's what it's worth to you, that's what you should ask for it.
